Well, of course you can, but how it looks is the more difficult part. The combination of these two elements is pretty avoided, but few people know that it is really a good idea. Blinds are good for a touch of privacy, curtains on the other hand give a soft look to the room. So why not combine them? Soften up the blinds, using curtains, and at the same time, give yourselves a little more privacy and shade, by bringing in blinds to help out the curtains. Usually the blinds are incorporated in the frame of the window, so there’s no problem of space for the curtain rods. The only thing to keep in mind is that you have to add a few inches both in depth and width of the curtains so it covers the blinds entirely.
Make sure your rods come out of the wall a few more inches to avoid the curtain catching in the blinds. The extra width is for covering the space created by the larger distance in depth. When you’re done, you’ll see how useful this combination can be o a bright sunny day, on a romantic night or if you have guests at your home.
It’s almost summer, and I started getting out my casual, summer clothing. Uh-oh! Where to put my sweaters, ski pants and scarves?
It is not easy to deposit off-season clothes, especially when you have delicate pieces of clothing like dresses or leather jackets. It’s very important that they don’t crease or stay in high humidity. There are some general rules you must apply before putting off your clothes for 8 months or so… First of all, make sure all the clothes are clean before you put them away for storing. Bacteria or harmful substances contained in stains can deteriorate the fabric. Instead of folding, choose the hanging method for all you clothing. Make sure you use appropriate hangers so you don’t find yourself having an extra breast on your chest, given by a bulge on your blouse. Don’t put your clothes in plastic foliation. Plastic doesn’t “breathe” so your clothes stink up and can even end up staying in their own condense a few months. Don’t be surprised to find mold on you $200 leather jacket. Do I event have to mention? NO HUMIDITY!!! Your storage should have a clean, dust-free and, most important, dry air. Be sure not to put them in the attic either, because too high or too low temperatures can be harmful too. I hope you find any of my tips useful. Now enjoy your summer, resting assure that your winter clothes are in a safe place and you can rely on them in 7 months or so.
Does anyone remember how fast he or she got bored of their room? How fancy it was when you got to redecorate your room, even if it meant moving a piece of furniture? Well that’s a general problem with kids. They like changes, because as they grow up, they change as well. One of the main concerns in redecorating a room is choosing the color. I, for one, had always had the same paint style in my room, only the color changed. As I grew up, I saw something that hit me: why didn’t I have a half-painted room? Why did I always have to stare at the same, even color? I don’t want my children to have that!
As I surfed the net, I stumbled across various models an methods of half-painted rooms. One of the methods used, is painting the whole room in a base color, and adding different themes or patterns to the bottom and to the top. This is a little more expensive but easier to do, and adds a main theme to the room.
The other option would be buying wallpapers that are ready made. This is even more easier, but you have limited options in your style. Finally, a third method is buying two kinds of wallpaper, and combining them, by cutting them in half. Be careful though, you might not get what you expect. Don’t get caught up in choosing the color, it is not so important as choosing the right combinations. And another thing: keep in mind that a 4-year-old doesn’t know the difference between blue and cyan. For him both are blue. In other words, don’t try to get the right shade of color for your kid. It’s no difference for him or his friends.
In the part time, I often met this kind of tiling in bathrooms. So the question arouse: what do you put on a “chessboard”? Well, it depends. If the tiles are smaller or larger. Smaller tiles tend to darken the room, so black is predominant. In this case an all black and white decoration is recommended as it maintains the simplicity preferred in bathroom designs. Adding another color like red, cobalt blue or yellow, is not out of the question either. Accessories should stay in the white range, but the textures can vary. The colors should be applied not on an object or surface as a whole, but in accents. A towel art, a colored spot on the wall tiles etc.
In case you have larger tiles, the black and white predomination can be more balanced, so you get their mixture, a gray effect. In this brute form, you get a sad, cold feeling entering the bathroom, but with a little color you can easily warm up the place. Choosing the colors isn’t that difficult, you can choose any color you like, your favorite color, anything, as long as you don’t exaggerate. In other words, keep it simple, you don’t need to make a rainbow out of your bathroom.
Getting bored of your walls, of their color? Don’t have the budget or time to repaint? Don’t worry, there’s at least a solution: stickers! Well, not really stickers, but Wallies. They work just like stickers, buy ‘em and apply them on your wall, wherever and however you like. You can choose from a variety of shapes, colors or styles. There are some wallies that come down very easily so you can change them or move them around in your room as you wish. Wallies are especially handy when designing children’s room, because as they grow up, they go through different phases, and you can’t have a teenager living in a baby room. If you have another child, redecorate according to gender. You can even let the children do the decorating, or at least let them choose the models. Be careful though, you know how children like paste.
So, whether you seek a change in your home, or you like to surprise your guests every time they visit, you should try this fun, cheap and fairly harmless method. And in the end, if you don’t like what you got, you can forfeit at any time.
One of the website I’ve surfed showed a woman who got bored of her old fashioned curtains, but didn’t want to spend a lot of money on buying new, trendy ones so she decided to go for the custom method. Using fabric paint and her own creativity, she made one-of-a-kind curtains for her home, that look very nice and don’t cost too much.
So, if you feel like throwing out your dusty, yellow curtains, think again, and try putting your imagination to work. Dying is an option, for the entire surface, and painting different themes, patterns or even random figures on them can prove to be not only useful, but fairly a fun activity. In the end, what have you got to lose?
This chandelier caught my attention in a mountain cabin. It is custom made and the owner said he personally shot the deers. Instead of making trophies out of them he decided to use them in a decorative way. It looks pretty nice in the dining-room of the cabin, an it fits well with the wooded ceiling and the rustic fireplace. All he needs now is bearskin rug and the picture perfect room is ready.
I personally do not see any other use for it, however, it’s a clever approach. I feel bad for the animals, though, if someone really saw this as a business opportunity…
